GREAT FULL BACK OF THE 1950’S AND THE EARLY 1960’S WHO WAS NAMED IN  
THE NO. 3 POSITION ON HURLING’S ‘TEAM OF THE CENTURY’ AND ‘TEAM OF  
THE MILLENNIUM.’
THE MAN FROM KILLEEN, GRAIGNAMANAGH WON AN ALL-IRELAND JUNIOR HURLING  
TITLE WITH KILKENNY IN 1946 AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR WAS A SUBSTITUTE  
ON THE TEAM WHICH BEAT CORK IN THE ALL-IRELAND SENIOR FINAL.
BORN INTO A FARMING FAMILY ON SEPTEMBER 4, 1925 THE GRAIG NATIVE WENT  
ON TO BECOME THE GREATEST FULL BACK IN HURLING HISTORY.
HE WAS ONE OF FOUR BROTHERS WHO PLAYED WITH THE LOCAL BRANDON ROVERS  
CLUB – A FORERUNNER OF GRAIGNAMANGH GAA CLUB.
HAVING SET UP BUSINESS IN ENNISCORTHY SOON AFTER THE 1947 ALL- 
IRELAND, NICK THREW IN HIS LOT WITH HIS ADOPTED WEXFORD, PLAYING WITH  
THE LOCAL ST. AIDAN’S CLUB.
NICK WENT TO WIN SENIOR ALL-IRELAND MEDALS WITH THE MODEL COUNTY IN  
1955,’56 AND ’60.
SADLY NICK PASSED AWAY IN 1988 – LEAVING BEHIND A TREMENDOUS LEGACY  
AS A FEARLESS, SKILFUL AND SPORTING PLAYER AND THE GREATEST NO. 3 TO 
EVER GRACE THE GAME OF HURLING.
ALTHOUGH HE NEVER WORE THE COLOURS OF THE GRAIG CLUB HE IS REMEMBERED  
WITH GREAT AFFECTION IN HIS NATIVE AREA.
